Reinvent Your Fall Work Wardrobe

by Sep 25, 2015blog0 comments

Fall is officially here! Change of leaves, new smells, seasonal food, and cool temperature (in most places) fill the air. With everything changing around us, why not change with it? Now is the perfect time to update your wardrobe staples and to reinvent who you really want to be at the office or even behind your desk at home. With the new season in full swing, I have a few ideas for you on how to change it up, no matter what your profession is.

I’ve talked a lot over the past week about organization being key to your morning routine. A uniform style of dressing that you can throw on easily can also be extremely helpful in getting out the door quick. I don’t always condone uniform style especially if we are trying to re-invent or elevate our look. However, if you get it right, it can be life changing!

For the corporate work place, think Claire Underwood. Beautifully tailored, simple, classic pieces. She looks impeccable, a force to be reckoned with everyday. Try a nice pencil skirt and blazer or little black dress paired with a unique jacket. This look works for everyone and with it, I promise it will help you get that pending promotion.

If you work in a more creative field, we can have lots of fun with less rules constraining our work outfits. I always love a great print dress and chunky heels. It is an easy look that can be worn with a sweater or trench for the Autumn days. If you are a big city girl, and the weather is not cooperating, dresses are very easy to wear with your rain or winter boots!

I also like a great skirt or the newest trend, culottes . Any length but mini is perfect for the office. Have fun and try a dark floral or other bold brint in the midi length, aline or the ever stylish pencil. Pair with a great long sleeve silk blouse or fitted sweater and you are done. If just trying culottes for the first time, stick with a more neutral palette on the bottom and bring the color and print to the top.

For the traveling executive, dressing up can be a little tricky; especially if you go from the airport to your meetings. You need to show up polished, and refreshed, not a rumbled mess. For this on-the-go work style, I love a great power suit. The most important aspect here is what is under your blazer. I would suggest a cashmere short sleeve sweater or a beautiful sleeveless blouse. Don’t try to wear 100% silk or linen because they will wrinkle too much which will come off unprofessional. You can also hang your blazer on the plane to prevent it from wrinkling as well. This is also a great time to try a jersey fabric, or wool blend sheath dress paired with a nice coat. These fabrics will wrinkle very little if any. Last but not least, a pointed toe lower heel is perfect for traveling so you can look polished and chic while on-the-go.

Work at home? No problem, I also have you covered! I’m sure it goes without saying but just because you work at home doesn’t mean you can wear pajamas. If you tend to stray that way, or keep your workout gear on all day, it’s time for a reboot! Try a comfortable jogger pant in a nice silky fabric, some even have an elastic waistband making it especially comfortable. Try pairing it with a cute sweater or button down shirt that are the perfect coordinates for this look. You can also wear a great skinny black knit pant – think legging but of good and thick quality, no 90s looks please. This look is great with an over sized blouse and flats or with a great chunky sweater for a practical and comfortable at-home feel.
