Meet Kimberly Rodriguez of KR Personal Style

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Rodriguez.

Kimberly, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started KR Personal Style nine years ago. I moved to Miami from New York City 14 years ago. I went to school at the Fashion Institute of Technology and worked in the fashion industry for several years thereafter my schooling. My husband is a Cuban American had family in Miami and we travelled to Miami often during the years so when we decided to leave NY, Miami was a natural choice for us.

I raised our daughter and was involved with other business ventures with my husband, but truly missed the excitement of the fashion business. Miami inspired me on a much different level than New York. It is truly a unique city and seemed like it was just finding itself in the metropolitan market with the likes of NY and LA. There certainly wasn’t the opportunities available here like in NY, so I decided to start my own business. I often helped friends with shopping, suggestions, closet edits, etc, so the idea of KR Personal Style was quite organic.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think building a business is ever smooth, but I have been very fortunate to have surrounded myself with great supportive people and amazing clients. Over the past nine years so much has changed with social media, so I find that has been one of the biggest challenges for me and continues to be so as it always evolving. Honestly, it’s not my forte, nor my passion to put myself out there in front of the camera so I enlist help when I can.

The other challenge is always finding new clients. I have a long list of amazing clients, some that have been with me from the very beginning, but it’s crucial to any business to continually grow your client base. I recently started virtual styling which has allowed me to service more people out of South Florida. I think there is a lot of potential with virtual styling tools and I’m excited about that component. There is nothing quite like a personal one on one, but it’s not always a reality, so technology has given me the opportunity to grow in a different direction.

Please tell us about KR Personal Style.
KR Personal Style is a Wardrobe and Image Consulting Business. We offer Personal Shopping, Closet Edits, Special Event Dressing, Virtual Styling, Packing Services, Corporate Seminars, Shopping Parties, and Phone Consultations. We specialize in women but work with men as well. Our services are afforadable and are not just for the luxury market. We shop at the Gap and Neiman Marcus and everything in between.

I feel most proud that we have established very trusting, long term relationships with all of our clients. Some clients are seen every other month and some just two times a year, but everyone is part of the family. I think my message to anyone thinking about asking for help is to just make the call! It’s the hardest part. My goal is that all clients feel like themselves, but just more confident in their style, appearance and wardrobe choices going forward.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have probably networked more and really put myself out there from the very beginning. As I said before I’m not a front of the camera type of person, but it really helps to build relationships from the start. I should have hired someone to help me with the marketing and PR from the very beginning as that was not my strength. I’m in a much better and more comfortable place now.
