Memorial Day Must-Haves

With Memorial Day just around the corner, a lot of us are preparing for backyard barbecues, weekend getaways and family reunions. No matter how you’re spending the holiday, it’s time to start thinking about what you’ll wear wherever you find yourself celebrating this year.

Red, white and blue are many people’s go-to colors during Memorial Day weekend. Pairing classic stripes with crisp white shorts or pants from J. Crew is a gorgeous way to look beautiful and chic while still showing off your patriotism.

If you’re going for a more casual look, this adorable cropped sweater is the perfect choice. If you’re feeling flirty, you can pair it with a cute pair of shorts; if you’re looking to keep it a little more conservative, a high-waisted short is a great way to still rock the cropped look.

When wearing simple classics like stripes or polka dots, don’t forget to add a pop of color to your outfit to grab your friends’ and family’s attention! A statement piece like a bold necklace or shoe will add some oomph to your outfit without blending in with simpler patterns.

If you decide to go with an eye-catching piece like the necklace shown above, a neutral shoe is a great option. Espadrilles are one of my favorite styles right now because they never go out of style and they’re super comfortable. With so many different variations and colors to choose from, the options are endless!

Simple, metallic shades are a fun way to wear neutrals without them being just your basic black or brown.  Gold is no longer just for jewelry, ladies!

Swimwear during Memorial Day weekend is essential, especially if you live in sunny Miami! Bathing suits are one of the most fun ways to express your personality and style during the summer. Incorporating pieces like Ralph Lauren’s Stars-and-Stripes bikini top into your wardrobe will guarantee not only adorable summer swimwear but also a stylish look for those afternoons in the pool.

Once you’re out of the pool and ready for your backyard barbecue feast, don’t spend your precious family time getting dressed up again – instead, throw on an easy, breezy coverup like this one from mytheresa.

Lightweight, clean and comfortable, this is the perfect coverup for a relaxing evening with those you love most. Don’t stop there – a beautiful tunic is also great for the beach or beach club or over a skinny white jean for your early evening cocktail party.

Whether you’re hosting a barbecue or are embarking on your next great adventure, these are your essentials for the summer, all the while representing our slice of Americana.
